A letter to my family, friends, sponsors, and fans:
My quest to become a two time Olympian has come to a close. Unfortunately, I will not be on the starting line in Beijing. This is a very tough letter to write because the Olympic Games are why I picked up the sport of triathlon and have been my goal for the last four years. The Olympics are very special to me and I am heartbroken to not be on the team. I not only believed that I would make the team but that I had an honest shot at a medal in Beijing.
I want to thank everyone for their support leading up to the Olympic Trials as well as afterwards, your kind words of encouragement mean a lot to me. My career is certainly not over and, in fact, I think that I have my best racing days ahead of me!
I am going to need some time to think about what direction I want to take my career but rest assured that I will continue to race from the front with all my heart, compete with integrity and sportsmanship, and be a role model for young as well as old triathletes.
Go USA!
Go Blue!

Potts Headlines USA Triathlon's Triathletes of the Year
I am extremely honored and proud to have won both the Male Olympic/ITU Triathlete of the Year as well as the Male Multisport Non-ITU Athlete of the Year from USA Triathlon. I had a great year last year and to be recognized by our national governing body as the triathlete of the year in draft legal as well as non-drafting races is really special. There are a lot of people that go into making me successful and this is a nice reward for all of them as well.
Thanks to all of my family, friends and support staff that keep me healthy, safe, and fast!

Slowtwitch Interviews World Champion Andy Potts
After the new year I had a chance to sit down with Slowtwitch.com and talk about my career as a triathlete as well as my life beyond being an athlete.
Excerpt:
ST: Would you describe for us how you recover from a longer distance event?
Andy: I let my body tell me when I’m ready to get back into hard training. I usually just put in some miles the days following an event and take it from there. I have gotten better with my recovery as I have matured into the sport as well. It used to take me seven to ten days after any race before I could put in a hard workout. Now, I’m pretty much ready to train hard three to four days after a half-Ironman race. I think that speaks more to my preparation than anything else.

Unbelievable!!! I've dreamt about being a World Champ since I started competing in sports.
Live Your Dreams!
While U.S. Olympian Andy Potts has spent the last few years establishing himself as a formidable threat on the ITU World Cup circuit, his efforts in non-drafting events this year have also been enormously successful, culminating in the biggest victory of his career at the 2007 Ford Ironman 70.3 World Championships. His first world title came three weeks after a dominating win at the inaugural Escape to Bermuda Triathlon, a non-drafting Olympic-distance event that apparently provided Potts with the perfect tune-up before the Clearwater race.

Potts Captures Inaugural Escape to Bermuda

I just returned from beautiful Bermuda where I won the inaugural Escape to Bermuda Triathlon. It was a challenging course and one that I will race again in the future. I had a good day at the "office" and was happy with where I am in my training at this point. Lisa and Boston got a rare chance to see me race and holding Boston up at the finishline is something that I will always remember!

World Team Championships>>>
The 2006 season came to a close on November 12th with an awesome finish. I won the New Plymouth World Cup race and led the race from start to finish. Not only did I finish the year with a victory but I also finished ranked 3rd in the world! On top of that, I was the anchor of the victorious USA relay as the World Team Championships. Needless to say, I finished the year on a high note and hope to use that momentum to carry me into 2007.
I was able to accomplish all of my goals this year and enjoy myself in the process as well. Consistency was the key for success this year both in training and racing.
